  9. 5    101    X    The remains of four buildings and nineteen burials at Pengtoushan dated to between 6500 and 5800 BC represent the earliest-known settled village with associated cemetery in the Yangzi valley.  Wild rice growing nearby was possibly being collected.  Even if rice was not domesticated at this early stage, the remains of rice are abundant as an inclusion in the clay used to make pottery.
